Questions on Reconfiguration for Regional Groups and Gatherings

  1. What proportion of congregations in your area are likely to leave the ELCA, and what proportion are likely to stay? For those that are contemplating leaving, what proportion have decided to leave and determined where and when to go, and what proportion are still in discernment?
  2. For congregations that will contemplate leaving the ELCA, what attributes will you look for in a new church body?
  3. For congregations that will likely stay in the ELCA, what ministries and functions would you prefer to access from a non-ELCA entity, rather than from your synod or the churchwide organization?
  4. Are there a significant number of laypeople who feel called to leave the ELCA but whose congregations will not do so? Vice versa?
  5. What ministries can, or should, faithful Lutherans from different church bodies try to do together?
  6. In what ways are denominations important today? What ministries, functions, activities, etc, are most effectively done by denominational entities, by groups of congregations and individuals, or by individual congregations?
  7. What should a reconfigured North American Lutheranism look like?
