How to Join LC3

For those of you whose congregations have not yet joined LC3, graphic of LCCC logowe ask that you consider more official participation. In order to become a part of the Lutheran Churches of the Common Confession, a congregation needs to adopt the Common Confession at a duly authorized meeting of the Congregation or of the congregation's Church Council. An intention to participate in the LC3 can be included in the same statement.

A Sample Motion

"The congregation of _____(name)____ Lutheran Church, ____(city, state)____, in concord with its constitutional statement of faith, adopts the "Common Confession" as a further articulation of this congregation's faith. This congregation intends to work more closely in mission and ministry with others who adopt the same confession of faith, in particular, supporting and taking part in the association of congregations known as the LC3 – Lutheran Churches of the Common Confession."

A copy of the congregational action, signed by the church president on church letterhead, should be sent to the LC3 Secretary at: 2299 Palmer Drive, Suite #220, New Brighton, MN 55112. Please provide the names and email addresses of the church’s pastor(s), along with the name and email address of a lay contact person in the church. They will be added to LC3’s “news release” email list. A congregation will not be listed as a member of LC3, until official notification is received from the church.

Additional Pastoral Supporters

In addition to the clergy who serve LC3 member-congregations, the association invites pastors and professional lay leaders who subscribe to the Common Confession to list their name as supporters of LC3. See our Supporters page for a list of pastoral and professional leaders who have subscribed to the Common Confession. To be included on the list of individual supporters, please send your request to LC3@lutherancore.org with your name, mailing address, phone number, email address, and current congregation, along with the name of the synod or geographical district to which you belong.

A Note on Affiliation

LC3 was meant to serve as an alliance of like-minded congregations within the ELCA, gathered on a voluntary basis for mutual support and mission. LC3 is not itself a church body, and it is distinct from synod and denominational structures. To become a part of LC3, a congregation or pastor does not need to leave their current synod or denomination, nor are they being asked join a new synod or denomination. LC3 does work in cooperation with a number of Lutheran reform groups, including the WordAlone Network and Lutheran CORE (Coalition for Reform), however, a congregation or individual also does not have to be a member of either of these groups to be a part of LC3.
