“But I, like a deaf man, do not hear; and I am like a mute man who does not open his mouth.  Yes, I am like a man who does not hear, and in whose mouth are no arguments.  For I hope in You, O Lord; You will answer, O Lord my God.”  (Psalm 38:13-15)

We go through periods of life when it seems we do not hear and cannot speak, but this does not mean the Lord is not always present.  In the droughts of life, it is in these times when, truth be told, He is most near.  Lean not on your own understanding, but lean upon the Lord who will lead you all the days of your life and know that He is always near and a help in the face of every trouble.

Lord, place in me resolute faith that trusts that You are always with me and will never leave me nor forsake me.  Help me understand this simple thing that no matter what happens, You are there.  Even in times when I am deaf and mute, place in my spirit the truth that Your presence is something I never need question, knowing that You know every hair on my head and all the days of my life.

Thank You, Lord Jesus,  for the hope and promise You have given through grace.  Guide me by Your grace that I would walk today and every day You give me in the full knowledge that You are always present and, through the Holy Spirit, will guide me regardless of how I feel or what is happening around me.  Lead me, O Lord, according to the Father’s purpose to simply follow.  Amen.

“My heart throbs, my strength fails me; and the light of my eyes, even that has gone from me.  My loved ones and my friends stand aloof from my plague; and my kinsmen stand afar off.  Those who seek my life lay snares for me; and those who seek to injure me have threatened destruction, and they devise treachery all day long.”  (Psalm 38:10-12)

In times of distress we wonder where the Lord is.  Step back.  All the way back.  Do not look in the moment, but at your life and you see the hand of the Lord all over the place.  You know if you draw close to Him, He is close to you.  He is there, but like other things, in distraction, what is right before you remains unseen.  The Lord will preserve your life and bring you to where you need to be.

Lord, I need you.  We all do.  Help me, I pray, to see in you the only hope there is.  Especially in times of trouble, remind me that You are not far off.  Guide me in Your purpose that I may abide in You as You abide in me.  Lead me through all the snares of this life that I may come through grown as You will grow me and become like Christ as You have stated the goal.  You are God and there is no other.

Lord Jesus, You certainly know what it is to walk through the valley of death and wander through the pitfalls of life.  Help me, I pray, to see in You the only hope for each and every day.  Guide me according to Your purpose to walk in Your ways that I would remain in You as You are in me and walk all the days of my life according to the will of the Father .  You are my Savior, Jesus.  Amen.

“For my loins are filled with burning, and there is no soundness in my flesh.  I am benumbed and badly crushed; I groan because of the agitation of my heart.  Lord, all my desire is before You; and my sighing is not hidden from You.”  (Psalm 38:7-9)

From the inside out we each have that something that drives us, knowing that where we are is not where we should remain.  Look to the Lord and see that the longing of every heart is to be with and in the One who created all things.  We are born separated from the Lord and our hearts long to be reunited.  Each of us is our own obstacle to what our hearts long for.  Turn to the Lord and see your longing fulfilled.

Lord, I do not know why I do what I do or why I am the way I am, but You do.  Help me through the obstacles that get in the way of the true longing of my heart to be fulfilled in You, which is the only place it can be fulfilled.  Guide me through the pitfalls of this life that I may know You, the One true God and Father of all who created all things.  Lead me, O Lord, into You.

Lord Jesus, God in the flesh, You have come to lead as many as would follow You out of the scrambling nothingness that all the wrangling of this life produces into the fullness of who each of us are in You.  Lead me, O Lord, according to Your grace that I may be fulfilled and become what I have been created to be in You.  Let me not stray, but remain firm in following You now and always.  Amen.

“For my iniquities are gone over my head; as a heavy burden they weigh too much for me.  My wounds grow foul and fester because of my folly.  I am bent over and greatly bowed down; I go mourning all day long.”  (Psalm 38:4-6)

Lord, I confess that I am in bondage to sin and cannot free myself.  You have shown me the way and I still have followed after the way of the wicked.  Lead me O Lord to see that in You alone is there hope and a future.  Lead me into the way of righteousness that I would seek after You and Your ways all the days of my life.  Lead me out of mourning by Your grace and into the light.

Lord, I do need Your help, for I do not even know the things I do.  Guide me to go ever deeper into Your Word knowing that in You alone is there hope and a future.  Lead me to learn and learn again the beauty of Your law and the truth that You have revealed for the ages.  Lead me in the light of Your presence to come out of my iniquities and practice the righteousness to which You call me.

Lord Jesus, I need Your grace.  I need Your power and leading to guide me all the days of my life.  Help me cling to You knowing that You alone have the words of eternal life.  Help me to know that it is You who are calling and will lead the way I should go.  Open my ears to hear Your call and empower my feet to follow where You lead.  You are the way of everlasting life.  Amen.

“O Lord, rebuke me not in Your wrath, and chasten me not in Your burning anger.  For Your arrows have sunk deep into me, and Your hand has pressed down on me.  There is no soundness in my flesh because of Your indignation; there is no health in my bones because of my sin.”  (Psalm 38:1-3)

Yes, there is the rebellion in our bones.  We each have gone astray as lost sheep and the Lord’s heart is broken.  It was broken on the cross.  Yet it is love that is in the heart of the Lord and He chastens those he loves and pierces the darkness to rebuke the wickedness.  Come to the Lord knowing He desires to lift you up out of the pit of despair that rebellion has brought upon this world.

Lord, I need to come first to You and confess, for You already know, but I need to come to the place of honesty.  That first place is fear, not afraid of You, but knowing that You will remove all the rebellion that is in me.  Though I fear, lead me into wisdom to know that love must chasten evil to cleanse the soul and thereby help me to become what has always been intended.  Lead me, Lord, into Your presence and keep me there.

Lord Jesus, God made visible, You have come to direct me in thought, word and deed.  Help me, O Lord, to follow where You lead knowing that it is in love, so much so that you gave Your life, that You will lead me in the way of everlasting life.  Help me, Lord, to walk each step under Your care and direction that I would come to full health in my soul in preparation for all You have planned.  Amen.

“But transgressors will be altogether destroyed; the posterity of the wicked will be cut off.  But the salvation of the righteous is from the Lord; He is their strength in time of trouble.  The Lord helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him.”  (Psalm 37:38-40)

The Lord is creating an eternity of goodness where evil is no more.  Those who follow the Lord embark on the road of learning goodness in thought, word and deed.  Come into the presence of the Lord and see removed the wickedness that this world imposes upon all who sin.  What seems to be prosperity for the wicked will cease and the goodness of the Lord will reign forever.

Lord, help me on this journey into which You have called me.  Guide me according to Your goodness to see in You the hope of glory which is forever.  Day by day, lead me in the way I should go and keep my steps from faltering.  Help me, O Lord, according to Your will to hold fast to the truth You have revealed that I may be prepared for the life which shall never end.

Lord Jesus, without You it would be impossible, but You have come that we may have life and have it abundantly.  Guide me, Lord, by Your grace to walk in the ways which are eternal.  Teach me by Your example to be led by the truth You have revealed.  Let the words of my mouth and my actions be in conformity with the Gospel You have revealed that when I stand before You I may be well pleasing in Your sight.  Amen.

“I have seen a wicked, violent man spreading himself like a luxuriant tree in its native soil.  Then he passed away, and lo, he was no more; I sought for him, but he could not be found.  Mark the blameless man, and behold the upright; for the man of peace will have a posterity.”  (Psalm 37:35-37)

Other than for an example, who remembers the deeds of the wicked, yet the righteous are remembered for their good deeds.  As one goes, so goes the reputation; but a reputation for its own sake is nothing.  It is what one does in goodness that is remembered.  Seek first the kingdom of God and then His righteousness shall be added unto you.  The way of the Lord is the way of the good.

Lord, if I but look I will see the way of goodness and the trail it leaves, but this culture tugs at me to stay in the moment and see nothing.  Give me eyes to see and ears to hear so that I will live the way You are calling me to live.  Guide me in the goodness which is forever that I may live according to Your never changing Word.  Help me to understand and live by that understanding to follow the way of goodness.

Lord Jesus, without You guiding my heart, I can do nothing.  You have redeemed me to do what is right and fitting in preparation for Your eternal kingdom.  Guide me in Your will to do those things which are right and grant that I would see You leading me and go the way You are directing.  Help me to simply obey according to Your Word.  Guide me Lord Jesus.  Amen.

“The wicked spies upon the righteous and seeks to kill him.  The Lord will not leave him in his hand or let him be condemned when he is judged.  Wait for the Lord and keep His way, and He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.”  (Psalm 37:32-34)

It is interesting that the wicked cannot stand those who walk with the Lord.  They will ignore others, but not followers of Christ.  See this and know that indeed the wicked will try to snuff out the life you have in Christ.  Trust in the Lord, and as you know there will be those who try to lead you astray, stay all the closer to the Lord and His ways.  You will see if you look and know all the more of His guidance.

Lord, I am easily distracted, wander off and then wonder where You are.  Help me see that this world is a hostile place and that the wicked ones are seeking my destruction.  Help me stay on the path of learning righteousness that I may abide in You now and always.  Keep my heart desiring what You give and build in me disdain for the things of the wicked.  Help me, Lord, to persevere.

Lord Jesus, You know how difficult this world is.  Guide me according to Your goodness to walk in Your ways all the days of my life.  Lead me according to the salvation You have purchased from the cross that I may walk with You in the way You lead.  Give me the ability to see the danger around me that I may avoid the pitfalls of the wicked and walk in Your ways now and always.  Amen.

“The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.  The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks justice.  The law of his God is in his heart; His steps do not slip.”  (Psalm 37:29-31)

Those who are in the Lord shall remain in Him forever.  It is not about gaining worldly territory, but about living into the purpose for which we were created.  Come into Him and know life abundantly.  The goodness of God, His Law, is displayed in those who live within the boundaries that God has established and abide fully in His Word.  Come then and abide in Him forever.

Lord, I cling to my own righteousness and understanding of the way things should be.  Help me reject my understanding and come into You who knows all things.  Guide me to trust through the twists and turns of this world in Your purpose and presence and reject the tugs at my heart to go in other directions.  Lead me, O Lord, according to Your will that I would now and always walk in Your ways.

Lord Jesus, You have come to lead the way for as many as would follow You.  Help me, O Lord, according to Your will to see more clearly the way You would have me go and then help me to go therein.  You have redeemed me so that I need not worry about when I fall, but instead about continuing the journey ever upward to becoming like You.  Help me, Lord Jesus, every step of the way.  Amen.

Tuesday, July 18, 2017 Devotion

“All day long he is gracious and lends, and his descendants are a blessing.  Depart from evil and do good, so you will abide forever.  For the Lord loves justice and does not forsake His godly ones; they are preserved forever, but the descendants of the wicked will be cut off.”  (Psalm 37:26-28)

God is good and loves when goodness is done.  He is more than able to sustain you in all of your ways and will lead you according to His will.  Walk then in the way of righteousness and know that the Lord will not forsake those who look to Him.  The wicked are cut off, but those who do righteousness are lifted up.  Walk in the ways of justice and do not forsake those around you.

Lord, it is hard to navigate this world filled with wickedness.  Guide me according to Your will to walk now and always keeping my eyes upon You.  Help me in every time of trouble to not look around, but to You for my guidance.  According to Your Word, prosper the good works I do and  take away the wickedness within me that I may be with You forever.  Lead me, O Lord, and help me to follow.

Lord Christ, You are the One who saves and apart from You I am unable to do anything.  Help me to do the Father’s will on earth as it is done in heaven.  Lead me today through all that will come to do what is right and fitting.  Help me see those parts of the journey which instruct and lift me up when I stumble.  May my life now and always be dedicated to justice, mercy and righteousness.  Amen.
