“Into Your hand I commit my spirit; you have ransomed me, O Lord, God of truth.  I hate those who regard vain idols, but I trust in the Lord.”  (Psalm 31:5-6)

Simply put, much of our struggle in life is simply committing our souls to the Lord.  Not something outward, proclaimed, but an actual reality of simply learning to commit our lives whole-heartedly to the Lord and His ways.  Too many, ourselves included, trust in the tinsel of this world rather than the reality of the Eternal God who simply asks us to commit ourselves to Him.

Lord, strip away the nonsense that wraps me up in the garbage of this world.  It is forever being replaced by more garbage.  You ask that I turn to You and give myself to you.  That’s it.  Help me, I pray to do just that – turn to You and submit.  You know the struggle better than I and You know what is needed.  Guide me along Your paths for Your sake that Your will would be done through me.

Lord Jesus, You lived a life of submission in humility.  By Your example, help me to be more interested in Your righteousness than in being right.  Help me to not be perturbed by those who have not submitted to You.  Let me see myself as I am, knowing that I am no better than anyone else.  Help me to hate the things that get in the way of loving You and loving the people You have put into my life.  Amen.

“For You are my rock and my fortress; for Your name’s sake You will lead me and guide me.   You will pull me out of the net which they have secretly laid for me, for You are my strength.”  (Psalm 31:3-4)

In this life, there are many ways each of us may choose to go.  The choices seem almost endless.  In the end, there are only two ways we can go, either follow the Lord, or else any other way.  The Lord alone, the Creator of all that is, is the foundation of all existence.  He is the source of all.  Turn to the Lord who is the rock of all and be saved from all the snares that entrap us.

Lord, it seems so complex with all of the choices around me and yet, You have declared the truth that You are the rock and fortress guarding against all the insanity of this age.  Pull me out of all the snares that are laid to entrap me and guide me in the way I should go.  Help me now and always to live into the life for which You have called me that I would do what is right and fitting as one who follows You.

Lord Jesus, You have the words of eternal life.  Help me, I pray, to listen to Your voice and go where You lead.  Bring me out of all of the snares that have been laid in this age that I may walk with You in the way of salvation.  Grant me strength today and every day to simply follow You in all the ways You have declared and thereby to be content with my life until I see You face to face.  Amen.

“In You, O Lord, I have taken refuge; let me never be ashamed; in Your righteousness deliver me.  Incline Your ear to me, rescue me quickly; be to me a rock of strength, a stronghold to save me.”  (Psalm 31:1-2)

Why would one be ashamed of being in a place that is forever safe, in comfort and good?  Yet, in this world people are ashamed of their faith.  Be not ashamed, but hold fast to the truth, not with pride but in the eternal hope of glory our Lord gives to those who believe.  He is the rock of strength in the shifting sands of this world.  He is the eternal stronghold for all who believe.

Lord God, You have given Your promises of stability and strength, a stability in knowing that all things are in Your hands and a strength in knowing that though we die, yet shall we live.  Help me, O Lord, to live in the truth of Your promises that I would now and always live as a pilgrim and a stranger in this world, knowing I have been redeemed by Your grace and through Your mercy shall dwell with You always.

Lord Jesus, You are the strength and hope for all that shall come through the grace given, in the mercy granted, with the hope that all things shall work together for good for all who love You.  Grant that I would now and always hold fast to You as You lead me through every valley of the shadow of death, clinging to You in the midst of every storm.  Lead me O Savior in the way You know I need to go.  Amen.

“You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, that my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent.  O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.”  (Psalm 30:11-12)

Sorrow comes in the night, but joy in the morning.  We do and will have times of difficulty and trouble in this world.  It is an age filled with rebellion against the Lord God who is good and gracious.  That sin spills into the world, but for those who are in the Lord, He gives the truth of His goodness and the promise that this present darkness is temporary.  Do not be silent, but rejoice in the promise and truth of His goodness.

Lord, in times of darkness, help me to see that You have given Your light to shine in that darkness.  Although trouble be all around me, You are there to lead me through every trouble to the place where in Your goodness I may know that Your promises are true, good and there for all who believe.  Lead me, O Lord, that I may forever hold fast to the goodness of Your love and mercy.

Lord Jesus, God in the flesh, You know the trouble of this world and have experienced it fully.  In Your compassion, You promised to lead the way that all who believe would not perish in this world of trouble, but be lifted up in Your goodness to be with You now and forever.  Help me, O Lord, to walk with You as You lead and never vary from the path You have set before me.  Amen.

“What profit is there in my blood, if I go down to the pit?  Will the dust praise You? Will it declare Your faithfulness?  “Hear, O Lord, and be gracious to me; O Lord, be my helper.”  (Psalm 30:9-10)

Did God create us to live a few years and then die?  What good then if God simply sees each human a little while, doing the same things and that’s it?  Is there not more?  Yes, we were created to be with Him forever.  We were created to praise Him.  The Lord will lift up those who turn to Him and hold them in His loving arms forever that we might be with Him now and forever.

Lord, grant that I would obtain the eternal view and see in You the hope of forever.  Teach me to learn how to praise You in all I do.  Guide me according to Your never-failing promises to live toward the day of eternal life.  Be my helper in these objectives that I would not falter, but continue the upward path You have established for those who turn to You and live in praise and thanksgiving.

Lord Jesus, You are the One who has come to lead the way of eternal life.  Guide me, O Lord, in Your way that I would walk in it now and forever.  Lead me according to Your purpose to dwell in the Father’s presence in thought, word and deed.  Lead me in the way You know I need to go that I would not live life going down to the pit, but for the upward call You give by grace.  Amen.

“O Lord, by Your favor You have made my mountain to stand strong; You hid Your face, I was dismayed.  To You, O Lord, I called, And to the Lord I made supplication:”  (Psalm 30:7-8)

We go to those high places seeking the Lord and He is not there.  When we humble ourselves and go to the quiet places, He is there.  “Be still and know that I am God,” He says.  The Lord calls, but we respond on His terms and not our own.  Turn to the Lord always, be still and through your supplication know that the Lord is always present.  It is not He who is hidden, but you who will not see.

Lord, quiet my heart and subdue my anxiety that I would simple live into the life You have given me, knowing that in You is hope and an eternal future.  Guide me, O Lord, according to Your never-changing Word that I would go where You send me, whether it be a high mountain, or a low place.  Lead me, O Lord, for You are the Creator of all things and You know me better than I know myself.

Lord Jesus, You humbled Yourself to come to lead the way for any and all that would come to You.  By Your grace guide me into Your eternal presence that I would know that You are always present, with us and for us.  Help me this day to simply do all You give me to do knowing that in You alone is there the hope of the ages.  Bring me to call upon You and then go where You would send me.  Amen.

Sunday, May 21, 2017 Devotion

“For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; Weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning.  Now as for me, I said in my prosperity, “I will never be moved.”  (Psalm 30:5-6)

How we can cling to that which we hold but is fleeting and reject that which is forever.  What you hold in this life is passing away, for heaven and earth shall pass away.  What the Lord gives through His favor is forever.  Turn to the Lord and taste and see that He is good and His love endures forever.  Know the Lord and know His goodness.  No matter what comes through this life, the life of the Lord and the life He gives is eternal and good.  Be moved unto the Lord.

Lord, how I resist the simple truth that all things are in Your hands.  You are the Eternal God and Your favor comes by grace through faith.  Lead me O Lord away from my prosperity that I may find the greatest treasure in Your favor.  Move me, O Lord, for I cannot stand before You, no matter what I say, except that I stand in the truth which is eternal.  Bring Your joy into my life that I would hold unto You alone, the author and giver of joy.

Lord Jesus, You walked the path I cannot walk to free me from the bondage I do not understand to bring me the joy I am unable to comprehend.  Lead me, King Jesus, from where I am to where I shall be forever.  Lead me into the eternal way that I might walk the eternal path You have established.  Guide me in Your purpose and presence to walk with you and grow into the joy You give.  Amen.

“O Lord, You have brought up my soul from Sheol; You have kept me alive, that I would not go down to the pit.  Sing praise to the Lord, you His godly ones, and give thanks to His holy name.”  (Psalm 30:3-4)

Though I die, yet shall I live.  The Lord gives life to those who though living in this age are dead.  He lifts up from the nothingness of being separated from Him to being eternally connected in, with and through Him.  The godly ones are the ones who turn to Him and live in the life He gives that they might fulfill their purpose in praising Him all the days of their life.  Look to the Lord and live.

Lord, You know the struggle I have in living for myself and not letting go of the temptations of this world.  My head knows, but my heart clings to what it thinks it knows.  Continue to bring me up out of the pit so that I may live to praise You alone whose work endures forever.  Guide me, O Lord, in the way You would have me go now and forever that I may give You thanks and praise.

Thank You O Lord for the goodness of Your salvation.  Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, You are the truth that shines in this age of darkness.  You are the One who has come into the pit that Your godly ones would be lifted up.  You are the One who calls to the assembly to live lives of thanks and praise.  May I live praising You, O Lord, now and forever and be forever thankful.  Amen.

“I will extol You, O Lord, for You have lifted me up, and have not let my enemies rejoice over me.  O Lord my God, I cried to You for help, and You healed me.”  (Psalm 30:1-2)

The world is a nasty place and there are those who love to hate.  There are those who are unthinking and uncaring.  The Lord loves and cares for the whole of His creation and those who listen to the Lord know Him.  Look to the Lord and be healed.  Look to the Lord and know the One who has you in His hands.  Look to the Lord and live life as He has created it to be lived.

Lord, let me not live as one who seeks what others are demanding.  Let me not be influenced by those who are far away from You.  Guide me according to Your purpose that I may abide in You as You abide in me.  Lead me to rejoicing in You, for by Your grace I am healed.  Lead me, O Lord, according to Your Word which is forever that I may this day more fully see the revelation of Your purpose and presence.

Lord Jesus, Word made flesh, who has come to dwell among us.  Guide me in the Father’s will this day that I may rejoice in Your healing.  Lead me according to the purpose which shall be fulfilled around me this day.  Help me keep my eyes upon You and away from all my enemies.  Let them not rejoice in their wickedness, but see Your goodness and turn to You, the author of life.  Amen.

Thursday, May 18, 2017 Devotion

The Lord sat as King at the flood; Yes, the Lord sits as King forever.  The Lord will give strength to His people; the Lord will bless His people with peace.”  (Psalm 29:11)

The Lord has never abandoned that He is Sovereign.  Pretenders come and go saying that they have authority, but all authority belongs to the Lord.  Be guided by the Lord and His ways, for they alone will endure forever.  Know that in the Lord, though there be seasons imposed by the pretenders, His ways shall be forever.  In the Lord is the peace of all ages that can never be taken.

Lord, I become excited at the times in which we live.  I do not understand and react, yet Your Word has been spoken and Your ways are established.  Help me, I pray, to see in You alone the hope of every age and to live into the way You have established.  Guide me according to Your principles that I would not veer from them, but day by day more fully live out the truth of Your Word.

Lord Jesus, You have come to lead the way for all who are in You.  Lead me this day and every day in the truth which has been from the beginning.  Help me to understand more fully the way You have established that the revealed truth of Your Word may be written upon my heart and that I may walk in that truth always.  Lead me O Lord in the way You would have me go.  Amen.
