“But let all who take refuge in You be glad, let them ever sing for joy; and may You shelter them, that those who love Your name may exult in You.  For it is You who blesses the righteous man, O Lord, You surround him with favor as with a shield.”  (Psalm 5:11, 12)

The Lord does shelter those who are in Him.  He has promised that He will work all things together for good for those who love Him and will conform them to the image of Christ.  It does not mean that everything will go the way the world says is good, nor bring worldly prosperity, but it is the promise of the Savior’s grace, the Father’s purpose and the Spirit’s presence.

Dear Lord, the world sells all kinds of things and causes people to scurry to get them.  Help me, I pray, to see that in You there is hope, joy and a reason to sing.  You are the shelter for all who come through Christ and You will grant rest in due season.  Surround me with the shield of Your favor that I may be guarded as I walk the journey of faith in the Savior.  Bless all the righteous.

Lord Jesus, in You is the hope of the nations.  Guide me to live into the promises You give by obeying all that You have commanded.  Grant to me a heart that desires to become like You in all things, knowing that the Father will conform all the faithful into His children.  Lead me this day to do what is right and fitting.  Grant that I would hear the Holy Spirit speak clearly to me now and always and that I would obey.  Amen.

“There is nothing reliable in what they say; their inward part is destruction itself.  Their throat is an open grave; they flatter with their tongue.  Hold them guilty, O God; by their own devices let them fall!  In the multitude of their transgressions thrust them out, for they are rebellious against You.”  (Psalm 5:9, 10)

We know the way of the wicked, for it is all about us.  The way of the Lord is right and good, straight and narrow.  Do not listen to the lies of the wicked one, nor fall into the trap of his deceits.  Follow the small still voice of the Lord which is the power of the universe.  Trust in the Lord and thrust out the deceitful voices that speak the lies of the wicked one

You, O Lord, are righteous, holy and good.  In contrast to the wickedness of this world, help me evermore to see clearly the contrariness of the wicked whose lying and deceitful lips speak all about me.  Let me not fall for their flattery, nor pine for the ways of this world, but always seek after You.  Keep me from the transgressors and their transgressions that I may avoid the traps of the wicked one.

Lord Christ, You lead the way.  You must lead the way, for I easily fall into the trap of the wicked all about me.  I desire their flattery and fall for their deceits.  When I do, pick me up and put me back on the straight and narrow course that You have set.  In all things, bring me to the place where I live life honoring the Father and seeking to do good all of the days You give me.  Amen.

“But as for me, by Your abundant lovingkindness I will enter Your house, at Your holy temple I will bow in reverence for You.  O Lord, lead me in Your righteousness because of my foes; Make Your way straight before me.”  (Psalm 5:7,8)

The way of the Lord is straight.  Straight away from sin, death and the devil, but we must be willing to go the way of the Lord.  We must want to leave behind the way of the foes of the Lord and follow as He leads.  His righteousness endures forever and we are invited to enter His house by the way He has prepared.  Enter then in the lovingkindness of the Lord and know life.

Lord, the temptations of this world are all about me and my foes are many, but they are not really my foes, but Yours.  Help me join with You in all parts of my life knowing that You have many things to teach me about the way of righteousness.  Guide me in Your never-failing love that I would hold fast to the truth You have revealed through the Savior.  Guide me according to Your will.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for coming and showing the righteous way of the Father.  Lead me in Your way, O Lord, that I would forever hold fast to the truth You have revealed.  Keep me close to You in all I do and guide me through the pitfalls of the wicked one.  You are the straight way and apart from You I can go nowhere or do nothing, but with You all things are possible.  Amen.

“The boastful shall not stand before Your eyes; You hate all who do iniquity.  You destroy those who speak falsehood; the Lord abhors the man of bloodshed and deceit.”  (Psalm 5:5,6)

Lord, you have given rules which all can understand if they will.  Who can boast in Your presence?  Who can stand in their wickedness before You, the Good God.  Guide me in all my ways to hate wickedness and deceit, to love my neighbor and to do good.  Keep my lips from speaking anything that is false and hold me to Your eternal standard of goodness forever.

Lord, what I desire in my heart in this world is what You command.  Help me to do my part by being honest and forthright, not seeking the harm, but the good of all of my neighbors.  Lead me in Your eternal ways to seek the truth You have spoken.  Help me not over-simplify what You say, but to see it within the pale of all that has happened throughout the ages.  Lead me always in Your ways.

Lord Jesus, You have come to pay the price of wickedness for all who believe.  These things which You abhor, You have overcome for our sakes.  Lead me in Your way, O Christ, that I may richly and eternally dwell in Your goodness and become like You.  Help me through every temptation that comes to put me off track that I may always follow where You lead the way.  Amen.

“In the morning, O Lord, You will hear my voice; in the morning I will order my prayer to You and eagerly watch.  For You are not a God who takes pleasure in wickedness; no evil dwells with You.”  (Psalm 5:3, 4)

The world is filled with wickedness, but the goodness of the Lord shines through.  Listen to the truth and know that the Lord has not abandoned us. For the sake of the righteous, He continues to be an ever present support for all who call upon His name.  Watch eagerly for the Lord and see those places where His goodness shines through.  Taste and see that the Lord is good.

Lord, You hear every cry and you are aware of all that happens.  Watch over me all the days of my life and keep me from falling into the wickedness of this age which is all about me.  There is no evil in You and You have sent the Savior to remove the wickedness which is in me.  Guide me according to Your precepts that I would hold fast to Your never-failing love and mercy.

God in the flesh, who has come to rescue as many as believe, guide me in the faith You have given me to see You as the absolute and only hope in this age filled with wickedness.  Lead me according to Your will that I would walk in Your ways all the days of my life.  Help me, O Lord to hold fast to Your never-failing precepts and live a godly life that is pleasing in Your sight.  Amen.

Friday, November 25, 2016 Devotion

“Give ear to my words, O Lord, consider my groaning.  Heed the sound of my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray.”  (Psalm 5:1,2)

In every age, there are troubles that surround and seek to overwhelm us.  You alone O Lord are able to make us dwell in the safety of Your promises.  Though life be wrenched away, yet I shall not die but declare Your goodness throughout eternity, for You alone are the God who is eternal.  Guide me through every time of trouble and keep me from abandoning Your hope and promise.

Lord, You know what each of us will say even before we say it.  You are aware of all that goes on.  Guide my understanding to come to the place where I know that You are there and in spite of what may be happening around me, keep me close to You that I would not veer from the narrow path You have set before me.  In all things, help me hold fast to the revelation of salvation You have given.

Lord Jesus, You know what adversity is.  You went to the cross amidst the horror of the demonic hosts rallying against You, yet you have forever prevailed.  Help me be in You as You are in me that I would know that You hear every lament in my mind and are aware of all that happens around me.  Lead me to trust in You above all things and know that You hear me when I cry.  Amen.

Thursday, November 24, 2016 Devotion

“You have put gladness in my heart, more than when their grain and new wine abound.  In peace I will both lie down and sleep, for You alone, O Lord, make me to dwell in safety.”  (Psalm 4:7, 8)

The evening prayer, spoken by generations over the ages is the comfort You give O Lord to those who hear Your voice.  Let me dwell in the gladness You give that I may value You above all things and fulfill the commandments You give.  Guide me in the safety of Your Word and presence now and always that regardless the blessings You grant upon this earth, being in You would be valued above all else.

You alone Lord are able to accomplish what You have promised.  You know the beginning from the end.  Help me, I pray, to see in You the hope of the ages and guide me in Your way of truth.  Lead me waking and sleeping to have my mind upon You that I may abide in Your righteousness all the days of my life.  Grant that I would have the right priorities and values and live by them.

My Lord and Savior, lead me in the peace You give which the world cannot give.  Guide me to obey all that You have commanded that I may live according to the will of the Father.  Help me in every time of trouble to stand firm in the truth of Your Word and live according to Your eternal precepts.  In all things, by Your grace, hold me fast to the truth You have revealed and which I believe.  Amen.

Wednesday, November 23, 2016 Devotion

“Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and trust in the Lord.  Many are saying, “Who will show us any good?”  Lift up the light of Your countenance upon us, O Lord!”  (Psalm 4:5,6)

There is good in the world, the gift of God’s grace, but often it is only those who are on the path of righteousness who see it.  Lift up the righteousness which is granted by grace and live in the promise of the Lord and see that the Lord is good and lifts up the lowly.  In Him alone can one find forgiveness of sin and come into the light which is the truth of the ages.  Apart from Him there is nothing good.

Lord, Your message is consistent and has been spoken over the ages.  You call out to those who will hear You and offer Your goodness and righteousness.  Guide me O Lord to walk in Your ways all the days of my life that I would hold fast to Your never-failing love and mercy.  Lead me in Your ways O Lord and shine Your countenance upon me that I would reflect Your light.

Lord Jesus, my God and my Savior, help me now and in every time that comes that I would hold fast against all the wickedness of this age to be able to live in the light of grace which You grant to those who believe.  Lead me, O Lord, in the way You would have me go and keep me from veering from the path You have established that I may walk that path all the days of my life.  Amen.

Tuesday, November 22, 2016 Devotion

“But know that the Lord has set apart the godly man for Himself; The Lord hears when I call to Him.  Tremble, and do not sin; Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still.”  (Psalm 4:3,4)

In grace, the Lord sets apart, that is, makes holy, the one who will come to Him, be in Him and through Him live according to His statutes.  No man is perfect except the man whom God perfects by grace through forgiveness of sins.  Live then into the life into which You are called through salvation that you would abide in Him as He abides in you, knowing that He alone is the One who creates all things.

Lord, create in me a clean heart.  Remove from me all the wickedness of this world and guide me according to Your principles which are never-failing.  Help me see the errors of my ways and transform me into the image of Christ, my Savior.  In all things lead me by Your Word that I may become ever more willing to do those things which You would have me do for Your glory.

Lord Jesus, grant that I may have a heart that meditates on Your Word.  Help me understand that I need to go to Your Word and expect You to speak to me.  In all I do this day, or any day, help me grow in Your likeness through the meditations You grant by grace.  In all things, may I become a willing and obedient servant of Your Gospel and reach out as You reach out with the love You give to all who believe.  Amen.
