“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)
Our first reaction, sinfully, is to deny, deflect, blame, or in some other way avoid the simple truth that, “Yes, I am a sinner.” In Christ, we see, if we see, that yes, I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. I do not want to sin, but I have and do sin. Move beyond the deception and simply see things as they are. Live in the truth of God’s revelation, confess and find freedom in Christ.
Lord You know, and really, I know, but there is this sin in me that does not want to simply confess the truth. Help me live according to Your Word and not in my own power that I would freely confess that yes, I am in bondage to sin and I need You to free me. Guide me into the freedom every time sin comes up that I may live in You and You in me, freed from sin’s recompense.
Lord Jesus, You have paid the price that as many as are in You would be freed from sin and live the life You have created. Keep me from hiding behind my own devices and simply and clearly confess to You that I need You to guide me in the way of salvation. Lead me today and every day to confess freely and know that in You, there is hope and an eternal future as You lead me through sin to become like You. Amen.
