“If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us.” (1 John 1:8)

Our first reaction, sinfully, is to deny, deflect, blame, or in some other way avoid the simple truth that, “Yes, I am a sinner.”  In Christ, we see, if we see, that yes, I have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.  I do not want to sin, but I have and do sin.  Move beyond the deception and simply see things as they are.  Live in the truth of God’s revelation, confess and find freedom in Christ.

Lord You know, and really, I know, but there is this sin in me that does not want to simply confess the truth.  Help me live according to Your Word and not in my own power that I would freely confess that yes, I am in bondage to sin and I need You to free me.  Guide me into the freedom every time sin comes up that I may live in You and You in me, freed from sin’s recompense.

Lord Jesus, You have paid the price that as many as are in You would be freed from sin and live the life You have created.  Keep me from hiding behind my own devices and simply and clearly confess to You that I need You to guide me in the way of salvation.  Lead me today and every day to confess freely and know that in You, there is hope and an eternal future as You lead me through sin to become like You.  Amen.

“But if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. ” (1 John 1:7)

If you are walking with Jesus, then you are walking in the light.  If you try to ‘prove’ it, perhaps you aren’t walking with Jesus.  Walking with Him is a place of learning to completely trust in Him knowing that He will do what needs to be done.  Those who are in the light simply walk with Him knowing that each day He will do what He does with those who walk with Him.

Lord, take away the anxiety and let me see more clearly that being in You is simply being in You.  Those who jump and shout are wanting something else.  Guide me to simply walk with You now and forever whatever may come.  Lead me to trust in what You have said knowing that You will finish what You have created according to the Father’s perfect will Lead me in You Lord Jesus.

Heavenly Father, You have sent Jesus, Your only begotten Son, Son of the light to illumine the hearts of all who would come through Him to You.  Guide me in the truth of Jesus that I may know that whatever comes, You are there guiding and directing according to Your perfect will.  Lead me this day Lord Jesus in the will of the Father that I may glow with the light You are through all who are in You.  Amen.

“If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth;” (1 John 1:6)

Our part is important.  Children of the darkness may say whatever they say, but children of the light walk in the light, revealing their connection with the Lord.  Indeed, all have sinned and fallen short of the Lord’s glory, but those who have been redeemed walk with Him in them and they in Him.  Death is no longer the master, but the Lord is Master.  Walk in the light of Christ.

Lord, bring me forward to the place where I am walking according to Your purposes.  Help me see that in You there is life and light.  Guide me to walk in the light, no longer playing the games of those who are in the darkness.  Lead me to be humble, gentle and transparent, and above all, with the truth revealed as one who knows they are forgiven and seeking to learn to obey all that You have commanded.

Jesus, You have come to lead all who are in You out of darkness and into the light of eternity.  Guide me O Lord according to the Father’s will that I would truly be in You as You are in me.  By Your Spirit, lead me to do what is right and fitting as a disciple knowing that You will complete me according to Your will.  May it be evident that I am a child of the light today.  Amen.

“This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all.” (1 John 1:5)

The contrasting, but absolute difference between light, which illumines, and darkness which is nothing at all speaks of the reality that God is, creates and has created us and apart from God, there is nothing.  God has spoken through His Son and the witnesses of this speak to us that we may not be in darkness, but come into the light and live now and forever.  You have heard the announcement.

Lord, many, including me, have heard the Gospel, but go on in life as though it means nothing.  Help me, I pray, to see that in You alone is there light, truth and life and that through You alone is there hope.  Help me heart the witness of those who speak in the truth You reveal through Your Spirit that I may walk in the light and out of the darkness.  Guide my footsteps in the light of Your Word.

Lord Jesus, You are the light that shines in that darkness.  Through You all things have come into being and apart from You, nothing has any being.  Guide me in the light You have revealed that I may walk according to the Word You have given knowing that in You alone is there life.  Keep me from the darkness of this age and make me a witness of Your light shining in me.  Amen.

“These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.” (1 John 1:4)

Many in the world are looking for that which will fulfill the longing of their hearts.  They think it is somewhere other than where it is.  It is right before us.  The God who created us has shown up and wants to abide in us as we abide in Him.  The witnesses of this truth have written that we may know that what have been looking for may be seen and the desire of our heart fulfilled.  Jesus has come, He is risen and He will come again.

Lord, open my eyes to see clearly and simply the truth of the ages.  Generations rise and fall before You and you see the same thing over and over again.  Every human heart has a longing, but the rebellion keeps us from seeing that the longing is to be with You.  Lead me from where I am to where I need to be that my joy may be complete in You, for You are the longing of every heart.

Lord Jesus, You are the way, truth and life and You have come to lead home all whose longing is fulfilled.  Keep me looking to You knowing that only in You is there hope and a future.  Let me not quench the fire of the Spirit which You have poured in me and hold me fast to Your purposes now and forever.  Lead me, O Lord, that I may live in You as You live in me.  Amen.

“What we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.” (1 John 1:3)

All who are in Christ are called into fellowship with one another.  We need each other to build up the testimony of a good conscience in the sight of our Lord and Savior amidst this world of sin and rebellion.  Our fellowship is with the Same Jesus Christ who is the author and finisher of our faith and who is leading the way in truth for the sake of the will of the Father.  All who are in Him are joined in His eternal family.

Lord, amidst all the fractious behavior in this world, help me to see that there is only one faith, one baptism and that You are One Lord.  Although my traditions and habits may be different, guide me to see that in You there is one hope for all who come through You to the Father.  Lead me away from thinking I am always right to You who is.  Lead me to see in others what You see.

Lord Jesus, You alone are the author of faith.  Apart from You, there is no hope, but in You, there is nothing but hope.  Guide me, I pray, to see in You the hope of glory and to live in that hope for the glory of the Father.  Lead me today and every day to do what You would have me do, to listen and obey, that I may live a life of faith, seeking the righteousness You give.  Amen.

“And the life was manifested, and we have seen and testify and proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and was manifested to us” (1 John 1:2)

What has been shown is given as a testimony by those who have seen it.  In our scientific age, remember that science is built upon replicating what has happened.  History is never replicated.  You either believe the witness of those who have seen, or else you do not.  This includes places you have not been to, but believe exist based upon the testimony of others.  God has come in the flesh.  That is what is said.

Lord, help me to see clearly that all of life is filled with those things I believe based upon the reports of others.  Help me use the mind you have given me to see clearly what You are saying, then hearing, to see and believe.  Help me to have a testimony that I may proclaim the truth that You have come and all who are willing can see and believe.  Help my unbelief and turn my faith into something that provides a good and true testimony.

Lord Jesus, You have come in the flesh to lead the way for as many as would follow You into the truth of eternity.  Guide the thoughts of my mind and the words of my lips to understand and speak the truth that all who come through You are given new life.  Lead me this day to explore this new life and grow to be like You, knowing that I am not yet what I will become.  Amen.

“What was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the Word of Life” (1 John 1:1)

All of history is witnessed.  History may repeat a pattern, but the moments that come and go are one of a kind.  No moment is repeated.  We have history given – the witness of those who saw – and they report that history for us to accept or reject.  John tells us what He witnessed as the Word of life was given.  He has passed along what He was given that we might accept the testimony.

Lord, throughout Scripture, You have spoken through witnesses that those who have ears to hear might hear.  Help me to hear Your Word of Life and then learn to live the Word of Life now and forever.  Guide me O Lord in the principles You have laid out and lead me according to Your purpose that I may grow in this faith You have given.  Help me to become a witness to Your Word.

Word of Flesh, Jesus my Savior, lead me in Your tender mercies according to the Father’s will that I may grow in the faith You have given me.  Lead me this day to learn what You would have me learn and know the things that I would pass along to others I meet along the way.  Help me, O Lord to learn how to be humble and true, living according to the promises You have given for all who believe.  Amen.

“Then they will go forth and look qn the corpses of the men who have transgressed against Me.  For their worm will not die and their fire will not be quenched; and they will be an abhorrence to all mankind.”  (Isaiah 66:24)

The Lord will accomplish all He has spoken.  For those who come through His salvation, there is Zion, but for those who continue in rebellion, there is destruction.  The way of the Lord is life, and the way of rebellion is destruction.  It matters not what you or I think, but what the Lord has spoken.

Lord, You have revealed the truth for the ages.  Many are they who continue along blindly.  Help me to have eyes to see and ears to hear that I would choose to walk in Your ways all the days of my life.  Guide me in Your never failing love which has sustained me, that I would learn from You how to live life as You have created it to be lived.  Not just for what is coming, but also for what is now, guide me along Your paths of righteousness.

Lord Jesus, God in the flesh, You have come to lead as many as would follow You away from rebellion and into conformity to the plan the Father laid out from the beginning.  Help me, I pray, today and every day to live according to the Word You have spoken knowing that You have revealed the Words of eternal life.  Lead me in Your never-failing love to become like You.  Amen.

“For just as the new heavens and the new earth which I make will endure before Me,” declares the Lord, “So your offspring and your name will endure.  And it shall be from new moon to new moon and from sabbath to sabbath, all mankind will come to bow down before Me,” says the Lord.”  (Isaiah 66:22-23)

What we now know will pass away, but what the Lord is preparing will be forever.  He has declared the truth for all to hear, but few are they who hear His report.  Listen, learn, and follow the Lord that You may live.  Be guided in the truth of His Word and know that His ways are forever.  Walk humbly before the Lord and be strengthened in the might of His everlasting Word.

Lord, from old You have spoken the truth of the ages.  I have heard Your Word, yet all around me are the scoffers, the mockers, and those who refuse to hear the simple truth that You are Lord.  Help me to keep my ears open and my mind clear that I may live in the truth You have revealed.  Lead me to be humble before You and walk according to the Word You have given me.

Lord Jesus, You are the example of faithfulness and have promised to lead the way for all who follow You.  Help me, I pray, to walk closely with You and not stray away from Your never-failing promises.  In all I do this day and every day, remind me that You are near and that nothing is able to keep me from You.  Lead me to walk humbly with You that I may grow in Your likeness.  Amen.
