For wickedness burns like a fire; it consumes briars and thorns; it even sets the thickets of the forest aflame and they roll upward in a column of smoke.  By the fury of the Lord of hosts the land is burned up, and the people are like fuel for the fire; no man spares his brother.”  (Isaiah 9:18, 19)

Wickedness is like an infection, growing and consuming.  When wickedness takes over, all constraints are cast off and there is a trail of destruction.  The Lord counters with His own fury to awaken those who are consumed in wickedness.  Through all of this, the people are like fuel for a fire, adding to the growing fire that wickedness produces.  Wickedness always destroys.

Lord, all around is wickedness in our world and it seems to be on the increase.  Help me see it clearly and then help me to not be caught up in its fire.  Help me to see the warnings You send that I would not be fuel for the fires of wickedness that burn.  Guide me into Your principles and truth knowing that in You alone is there hope through every situation that wickedness produces.

Thank You, Lord, for the salvation You have purchased to free all who come to You from the wickedness of this world.  Guide me into Your Word and Way that I would live according to Your principles and see more clearly what the world promotes against the truth You have revealed.  May I be faithful this day in living out Your precepts, being Your disciple.  Amen.

“Therefore the Lord does not take pleasure in their young men, nor does He have pity on their orphans or their widows; for every one of them is godless and an evildoer, and every mouth is speaking foolishness.  In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away and His hand is still stretched out.”  (Isaiah 9:17)

When those who rebel against the Lord do not repent, continuing in their foolishness, He stretches out His hand top strike at their sin.  The Lord desires that all would repent and turn to Him.  His hand strikes out to bring the terror of sin to full view that those who see it would turn to Him.  The wickedness of sin leaves its mark, but greater still is the balm of forgiveness that grace brings.

Lord, though there be one thousand at my side who continue their rebellion against You, help me understand that You are the greatest of all.  Help me turn from my ways of sin and into Your provision of grace.  Keep me from pride and arrogance that I would hold fast to the truth You have revealed for the ages.  May I learn from You and not others that I may learn the way of truth.

Lord, in every generation, you make the same offer that as many as would turn to You would not live in death, but find the life You have offered through grace by Your Son.  Help me live in this grace You have purchased that I may hold fast to the truth in the midst of a crazy world that seeks for itself destruction.  Guide me today that I may live in Your grace and be approved by faith.  Amen.

“The head is the elder and honorable man, and the prophet who teaches falsehood is the tail.  For those who guide this people are leading them astray; and those who are guided by them are brought to confusion.”  (Isaiah 9:15, 16)

Confusion is death.  Learn not from others when the Lord Himself will teach you through His Word.  Do not be headless, but let the Lord Himself be your head.  Do not be led astray.  Be guided by the Counselor, the Holy Spirit.  Do not be confused, but know the truth that the Lord of Hosts reveals Himself through Christ Jesus.  Jesus is the Way, Truth and Life.  All in Him will live.

Lord, there are many who teach this and that and it is confusing.  Help me not to seek for a good teacher when You are there to be the Good Teacher.  Rabi Jesus, show me Your Word that I may learn the truth and not be led astray by those who do not teach truth.  Guide me in Your Way, which is truth that I may walk according to Your statutes.  Lead me O Lord into Your presence.

Lord, You have saved me through the price of Your blood on the cross.  Guide me into Your teaching through the Word that I may learn from You today how to live according to Your Word.  Thank You for always being there to lead me in the way of truth.  May I be faithful to You in all things and be approved as Your disciple.  May I witness to the Goodness You have revealed to save as many as believe.  Amen.

“Yet the people do not turn back to Him who struck them, nor do they seek the Lord of hosts.  So the Lord cuts off head and tail from Israel, both palm branch and bulrush in a single day.”  (Isaiah 9:13, 14)

The worse things get, the more obstinate the rebels become.  Those who will not bend the knee while on earth will be subject to adversity.  Finally, what will come is slavery.  The head is cut off (not being able to think for yourself).  So it is that God tells us that the rebellion against Him will always end in slavery, ultimately slavery to sin, which is death.

Lord, I have those place in my life where I rebel against You.  Take this rebellion away from me.  Mold me into a willing servant of Your Word and help me to joyfully live this life to which You have called me.  There are those around me who continue their rebellion.  Keep me from being influenced by their heresy, but instead seek Your Word which is truth.  Your Word will come to pass just as You have said.

Thank You, Lord, for rescuing me from the recompense of sin through the grace You have purchased.  Help me live in to the freedom You have purchased, laying aside all of the rebellion that remains in my heart.  May I be a faithful disciple of the truth You have revealed and follow in Your ways.  May others see in me the presence of the salvation You have purchased in me.  Amen.

“Therefore the Lord raises against them adversaries from Rezin and spurs their enemies on, the Arameans on the east and the Philistines on the west; and they devour Israel with gaping jaws.  In spite of all this, His anger does not turn away and His hand is still stretched out.”  (Isaiah 9:11, 12)

The Lord’s mercy has kept us from many times of calamity.  When we do not follow the Lord, when we excuse Him from our public places, He withdraws (with His mercy), yet this is not judgement, just a realization of how much protection He gives to those who are His.  How much more then shall we seek to avoid His judgement when we see how much He protects us.

Lord, I think selfishly and do not see Your hand everywhere.  Yet, You are God and everything is in Your hand.  Help me live a life that sees clearly that You are in control of this universe You have made.  Help me, in spite of what may go on around me, to live knowing that You are always there and that Your hand of protection is upon those who love You.  Guide me into the assurance of all of Your promises.

Thank You for walking with me this day, O Lord.  Grant that I would live this day in praise of You whose work endures forever.  Guide me into Your Way that I would hold fast to what You have taught me, learning even more as I journey through the day.  Help me to be truly Your disciple this day knowing that all things are in Your hands and that Your mercy is before me.  Amen.

“The Lord sends a message against Jacob, and it falls on Israel.  And all the people know it,that is, Ephraim and the inhabitants of Samaria, Asserting in pride and in arrogance of heart: “The bricks have fallen down, but we will rebuild with smooth stones; the sycamores have been cut down, but we will replace them with cedars.”  (Isaiah 9:8-10)

We want to be first, but in our zeal for obtaining and going against the Lord, we end up last.  The arrogance of the proud boasts that they are able to be as the Most High.  “I will,” is the mantra.  Only the Lord God is God.  Unless we are blessed of the Lord to do so, we can accomplish nothing.  Unless a house is built upon the Lord and His blessing, it will fall.

Lord, I too am full of arrogance and seek first the things from the wickedness of my heart.  I too contend with You and plead my case, desiring my own thoughts and seeking my own ambitions.  Turn my heart to You that I may no longer accede to its desires, but give up to Your perfect will.  Guide me into the righteousness You hold before all that I may be approved by grace through faith.

Lord, where You lead the way, cause my feet to follow.  Take me away from the insanity of this world and into the righteousness You hold before every people.  Keep me far from the unholiness that wrecks havoc on this world, but instead lead me in the truth of Your Way that I would walk according to Your precepts.  Guard my heart and keep me close to You that the sin You have taken away would be far from me.  Amen.

Tuesday, November 25, 2014, Devotion

“There will be no end to the increase of His government or of peace, on the throne of David and over his kingdom, to establish it and to uphold it with justice and righteousness from then on and forevermore.  The zeal of the Lord of hosts will accomplish this.”  (Isaiah 9:7)

The Kingdom of the gentle and eternal rule of Christ has begun and all who come through grace by faith are invited into the kingdom which has no end.  The Lord has been revealing His plan from the beginning and in the days of old, He spoke through the prophets, but now in these last days, He speaks to us through His Son.  Come into the zeal of the Lord and know His salvation.

Lord, You accomplish what You purpose.  Guide me into Your never-failing love and purpose that I may live according to Your plans and not according to my own.  Help me understand more fully the unveiling of what You have purposed through Your Word that I may not be caught up in the always-failing and repeating lies given as promises in this world.  Lead me into Your kingdom now and forever.

Lord, You have come that as many as would follow You would be led according to Your eternal purpose.  Guide me this day in Your will that I would do what is pleasing to You.  Teach me Your way, that I would walk in Your footsteps and help me in all things to show myself to be one of Your disciples.  In all I say and do this day, may it be a reflecting of Your presence in my life.  Amen.

“For every boot of the booted warrior in the battle tumult, and cloak rolled in blood, will be for burning, fuel for the fire.   For a child will be born to us, a son will be given to us;

And the government will rest on His shoulders; And His name will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Eternal Father, Prince of Peace.”  (Isaiah 9:5, 6)

It was not be peaceful, but the child of promise has been born and He has come that there might be peace between God and His people.  The Prince of Peace is the Eternal Father who has come and given the Wonderful Counselor, the Mighty God Himself has come to save His people.  In eternity and now, with His people, His everlasting government rests upon His shoulders.

Lord, grant that I would see clearly through the prophecy of old that You have revealed what is now proclaimed that You, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, have come to lead Your people to the promised land of eternity.  Guide me in Your promise that I would hold fast to the revelation You have given, knowing that only in You is there Hope and a future.  May I burn my battle armor and change it in for the blood You have used to purchase, redeem, those who are in You.

Lord, You have brought to pass what You proclaimed from long ago.  Through Your blood, we are healed and the government is now and always upon Your shoulders.  Guide me as my King and Savior that I would live in this new and eternal life that You alone give to be one of Your faithful disciples.  In all I do this day, may I be approved by Your grace and fitted for Your kingdom.  Amen.

Sunday, November 23, 2014, Devotion

“You shall multiply the nation, you shall increase their gladness; they will be glad in Your presence as with the gladness of harvest, as men rejoice when they divide the spoil.  For You shall break the yoke of their burden and the staff on their shoulders, the rod of their oppressor, as at the battle of Midian.”  (Isaiah 9:3, 4)

The Lord has sent a Savior to the nations that they would not walk in the darkness of the rebellion of sin.  Both the Israelites and those in the rest of the world have lived in darkness, but the promise of the One to come has happened and we need no longer look for the Savior, for He has come.  Turn to the One whom the Lord has sent and see the light of the world that shines in the darkness.

Lord, You have come that we may live life here and now in preparation for the life to come.  Guide me in that life You have prepared that I may learn from You and walk in Your ways.  Help me see more clearly each day the truth of Your Word and apply what You teach me that I may become a faithful disciple.  May I rejoice in gladness at the revelation You have given for the nations.

Lord, Your Word is truth and what You speak, You speak to the nations.  Help me this day to live in the truth of Your Word, knowing that only in You is their hope and a future.  In all I do this day, may I see a little more clearly Your hand which has created all things and walk more fully in the truth of Your Word.  May I be Your disciple this day, living out the truth You have revealed.  Amen.

Saturday, November 22, 2014, Devotion

“The people who walk in darkness will see a great light; those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.”  (Isaiah 9:2)

The light has been sent to shine on every land that as many as would turn to the light, receive the witness and come unto the Lord would no longer walk in the darkness of sin, but walk in the light of life.  Every calamity that the Lord allows has built in a reminder of what really matters versus what ultimately does not.  Turn to the light and live, or else remain in darkness where there is no life.

Lord, help me to live as a child of the light.  Guide me into the revelation You have given to the ages, prophesied by Isaiah long ago.  Help me understand the simplicity of what You have revealed that I may with the same simplicity walk in the light that leads to eternal life.  Help me share the light by being Your light shining in the darkness of the world around me.

Thank You, Lord, Jesus for coming and being the light of the world.  You whom the prophets of old foretold are the revelation to the nations, coming to save as many as would turn to You and gain eternal life.  May I be Your faithful servant this day, shining Your light to all whom I meet that they may know the truth of the life You have come to offer.  May others see You in me this day.  Amen.
