“So now let Me tell you what I am going to do to My vineyard: I will remove its hedge and it will be consumed; I will break down its wall and it will become trampled ground. “I will lay it waste; It will not be pruned or hoed, but briars and thorns will come up. I will also charge the clouds to rain no rain on it.”  (Isaiah 5:5, 6)

How the Lord brings judgement to those who will not abide in Him is to remove the mercy He gives.  The Lord is under no obligation to give mercy, nor is the removal of mercy unjust.  The Lord allows the world to come in and ravage, for this is what sin accomplishes.  If it were not for God’s mercy, the world would be complete chaos.  Abide in the Lord’s mercy and obey His commands.

Lord, I have come to expect Your mercy, yet You tell me that You will have mercy upon whom You will have mercy.  Lord, create in me appreciation of the many ways in which You protect all of us that I might not take for granted your grace and mercy.  In all circumstances, bring me to the place where I am thankful for all of the benefits You give to us all.

Lord, I forget the impact of sin, how it destroys.  Lead me this day to the place where I seek to be faithful in all circumstances, knowing Your judgement is always behind the mercy You give.  Help me live in obedience that I would not need Your mercy.  May I be faithful today in all of Your edicts, knowing that only in You is their hope and a future.  Amen.

“And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge between Me and My vineyard.  What more was there to do for My vineyard that I have not done in it?  Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes did it produce worthless ones?”  (Isaiah 5:3, 4)

What more could the Lord do than He has already done?  He forces no one to come work in His vineyard, but invites, continuously invites all who have ears to hear that they might taste and see that the Lord is good.  Living in the promise of the Lord, goodness will come.  Living with what thsinner desires will only produce bitterness.  Come therefore and live in the Lord’s provision, which produces eternal life in Him.

Lord, I have my ideas of how things should be.  I strive, ultimately against You.  Help me, I pray, to overcome my pride and live according to Your Word alone.  Teach me how to faithfully work in Your vineyard that I would do those things that are pleasing to You.  Keep me from the arrogance of doing what I wish and then thinking You ought to be pleased.

Lord, You alone save those who trust in You.  Help me walk in Your salvation today, doing what You would have me do, knowing that in You alone will I find goodness through Your mercy.  Help me, I pray, to be faithful to Your call on my life this day, living according to Your Word and doing those things which are pleasing in Your sight.  May I be found faithful at days end.  Amen.

“Let me sing now for my well-beloved a song of my beloved concerning His vineyard.  My well-beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill.  He dug it all around, removed its stones, and planted it with the choicest vine.  And He built a tower in the middle of it and also hewed out a wine vat in it; then He expected it to produce good grapes, but it produced only worthless ones.”  (Isaiah 5:1, 2)

The Lord has provided everything we need in order to live a life of faith.  Its all there, but we wander off in different directions.  Do not look for what is missing, see what the Lord has provided, for He says that when we seek His righteousness, then everything else will be added.  If we try to build it ourselves, it will crumble.  The Lord desires that we produce what comes from righteousness.

Lord, I have tried to build up Your kingdom and failed.  You are the One who provides everything and calls for us to live in the righteousness You alone can give.  Help me start at the beginning and see that You alone are able to accomplish what You have purposed.  Keep me in Your presence and purpose and lead me into Your vineyard of righteousness that I may abide in You and You in me.

Lord, I need to be saved from myself and You alone are able to save me.  Lead me this day into Your righteousness that in You I may find the future of my hope in You.  In all I do this day, keep me from wandering off into those places I would choose and gold me fast to the narrow path You lay before me.  In all I do this day, may it be You alone that is praised.  Amen.

“There will be a shelter to give shade from the heat by day, and refuge and protection from the storm and the rain.”  (Isaiah 4:6)

The shelter of the Lord is one that protects against the effects of this world, not temporally, but eternally.  This sinful world will impact us, but, in the eternal scheme of this, always for His glory.  Keep your eye on the prize and do not lose sight of where your hope is placed.  Look to the Lord and trust Him to lead you all the way through.  He will keep you on the right path.

Lord, I often waver and think that the temporary maladies of this world will prevail.  Help me understand more clearly that You are my protection and that You will let nothing prevent my salvation if I will trust in You.  Keep me close to You in every time of trouble and help me to not try figure things out, but to trust You who has placed everything in motion according to Your purpose.

Lord, by Your grace I am saved.  Help me to be a bold witness today, trusting in Your never-failing promises that no matter what may come, I may know that You are God and You are faithful.  Lead me today to proclaim Your protection with a calm demeanor and a willing spirit that reaches out to other with the truth of Your love.  May I be faithful this day O Lord.  Amen.

“When the Lord has washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion and purged the bloodshed of Jerusalem from her midst, by the spirit of judgment and the spirit of burning, then the Lord will create over the whole area of Mount Zion and over her assemblies a cloud by day, even smoke, and the brightness of a flaming fire by night; for over all the glory will be a canopy.”  (Isaiah 4:4, 5)

The Lord grants His protection to the faithful.  Even in these times, we are under the protection of the Lord, but sin still rages on.  Live under the protection and provision of the Lord, knowing that only in Him is there hope and a future.  It is in the promises of the Lord that fulfillment will come.  In spite of what the ages bring, we await the time of that last day when the Lord will reveal His complete plan.

Lord, I do know how to become anxious, yet Your Word tells me not to worry about tomorrow, for today has enough trouble of its own.  Help me, I pray, to learn how to patiently await the unveiling of Your promises.  Teach me to walk in Your ways and lean not on my own understanding.  Grant to me the ability to stay close to You in all circumstances.

Thank You, Lord, for leading the way through each of the generations.  Guide me ever closer to the truth of Your Word that I would walk in Your ways today.  Remind me in times of temptation to stay close to You and listen as You speak to me and give me guidance.  Help me, I pray, to faithfully live this day according to Your precepts and remain a witness of the truth of Your presence.  Amen.

“In that day the Branch of the Lord will be beautiful and glorious, and the fruit of the earth will be the pride and the adornment of the survivors of Israel.”  (Isaiah 4:2)

The survivors who come through the tribulation are promised what was intended from the beginning.  Those who would make paradise on earth do not see what sin has done.  What the Lord is creating is perfect, and only those who follow Him through the travails of this age will see what He promises to the faithful.  Live in the life He gives as He guides the faithful forward.

Lord, I become anxious with every difficulty, wanting now what cannot be, for sin will enter in again.  Help me trust in Your promises, knowing that there will be a new heaven and a new earth.  Guide me to live each day, knowing each day has enough trouble of its own, that I may learn to be faithful and trust You in all things.  Help me Lord to remain close to You by meditating on Your Word.

Thank You, Lord,  for giving promises that help every generation cope with what sin has done.  Help me this day to live faithfully in the promise You have given me, knowing that only in You is there hope and a future.  Keep me close to You and Your Word today that I would faithfully live this day according to Your Word and be a witness of Your presence on earth.  Amen.

“For seven women will take hold of one man in that day, saying, “We will eat our own bread and wear our own clothes, only let us be called by your name; take away our reproach!”  (Isaiah 4:1)

The end of wanton sinfulness is being completely alone.  Many follow the path that seems right in the sight of sinners, but few are they who walk in the way of the Lord all the days of their lives.  Only in faithfulness will what is truly desired come to pass.  Walk therefore in the way of the Lord and know that it will end well according to His promise.  Do not be enticed by the wickedness that is offered every generation in this world.

Lord, help me step back and see the truth of this promise.  Help me see those who end life well versus those who have chosen the way of the world and end up alone and forsaken.  Guide me in Your way of truth that I would live the better portion and walk according to Your Word.  Keep me firm in Your Word of truth that I may live in and with You all the days of my life.

Thank You, Lord, for showing me Your way of truth.  Guide me this day in truth that I may abide in You and You in me and live for Your glory.  Help me remain humble and not be proud, except in the truth of the salvation You grant through Christ.  May I walk in Your light and may the light reflect into the darkness of this world that as many as would come to You might receive Your witness in my life through what I say and do.  Amen.

“And her gates will lament and mourn, and deserted she will sit on the ground.”  (Isaiah 3:26)

The way of sin is death.  Though they start out strong and proud, the sinners will end weak and alone.  It is not to be so amongst you who acknowledge the Lord.  Walk in His ways and flee from every temptation.  Those who only mourn over sinners and their choices reveal that they are far from the Lord.  Those who mourn over fallen sinners but pray for them reveal the Lord’s heart, which desires that none would perish.

Lord, help me to have compassion for all, yet remain aloof from giving any credence to sin.  Help me become wise in Your way that I would see more clearly that all sin leads to death.  Guide me in Your way, O Lord, that I would hold fast to the truth You have revealed, knowing that only in You is there life eternal.  Help me see what I need to see that I may remain faithful in the righteousness You give through Christ my Savior.

Lord, You have called me out from the sinful and death-bound world to live according to Your Word.  Help me this day to choose righteousness that I may learn faithfulness in all I do and say.  Keep me from temptation and lead me in Your ways.  Help me be the beacon of light that You have called me to be through my baptism that I would be faithful to You in all things.  Amen.

“Now it will come about that instead of sweet perfume there will be putrefaction; instead of a belt, a rope; instead of well-set hair, a plucked-out scalp; instead of fine clothes, a donning of sackcloth; and branding instead of beauty. Your men will fall by the sword and your mighty ones in battle.”  (Isaiah 3:24, 25)

Sin begins by seeming to smell sweet, but the true stench of sin mounts up and overtakes the false sweetness to reveal its ugly self.  Many are they who are enticed by the initial temptation only to fall prey to the overpowering force of the death of sin.  By this sinful tempting, death and destruction come.  Resist temptation and sin will flee.  Learn the Word and live.  Sin does not discriminate, but will consume all who take in her sweet stench.

Lord, help me see clearly what temptation offers at the end that I may flee from every temptation and into Your arms of mercy.  Guide me into the truth of Your Word that I would see clearly what is before me and walk in the steps You have outlined for me.  Guide me away from evil and into Your loving arms of mercy.  Keep me from the wicked one that I may live a life devoted to You.

Thank You, Lord, for the revelation of Your Word.  Help me today to live by Your Word and walk in Your ways.  Help me be a beacon of light in a dark world, not looking down on those who sin, but showing the better way Your Word provides to those who walk in Your ways.  Keep me close to You that I may see more clearly the steps You have planned for me today.  Amen.

“In that day the Lord will take away the beauty of their anklets, headbands, crescent ornaments, dangling earrings, bracelets, veils, headdresses, ankle chains, sashes, perfume boxes, amulets, finger rings, nose rings, festal robes, outer tunics, cloaks, money purses, hand mirrors, undergarments, turbans and veils.”  (Isaiah 3:18-21)

The wealth of this world is fleeting.  People cling to the baubles and beads which please the eye, but have no lasting purpose.  We cling to our toys and the things that intrigue us.  But the faithful are to cling to those things of the Lord which are eternal.  Hold fast to His never-failing principles and keep walking in His ways that you may not be tempted by the temporary things of this world.

Lord, the culture is always selling the next best thing that comes along.  Help me, I pray, to live according to Your Word and not get wrapped up in the hype of this age.  Those things which are convenient are fine, as far as they go, but they are simply things and You alone are to be worshiped.  Help me keep right priorities and live according to Your Word.

Lord, You have declared the truth for the ages.  Keep me sane and sound in thought, that I would not get carried away with the passing fanciful things of this age.  May I be faithful in all that You give me and keep away from the enticing temptations of this world.  Hold me fast to Your principles today that in all I say and do, I would worship You alone.  Amen.
