“The strong man will become tinder, his work also a spark. Thus they shall both burn together and there will be none to quench them.”  (Isaiah 1:31)

Our life is short, especially when one considers the eternal God who has always been and always will be.  What is life, but a flashing ember that quickly goes out?  The Lord calls for us to look at Him and see that in Him is true hope and an eternal future that will never fade, nor be consumed by the insanity that grips a rebellious generation.  Turn to the Lord and let not your life be consumed by things that do not matter eternally.

If we place our hope in that which we accomplish in this world, it will fade and eventually pass away.  If we place our hope in that which the Lord is doing, it is eternal.  He has placed in us the desire for immortality and in that desire is a call to turn to Him.  Many will turn away, but You are called this day into His presence.  Turn away from the things of this world and to the Lord and live according to His never-failing principles.

Lord, the tug of this world is strong.  Help me see that in You alone is their hope and a future.  Guide me to focus on the important things in life, beginning with being drawn ever deeper into You and Your presence.  Guide me this day to meditate on Your Word and grow in understanding the truth You have revealed for the ages.  Help me learn obedience and practice it faithfully.  Amen.

“For you will be like an oak whose leaf fades away or as a garden that has no water.”  (Isaiah 1:30)

If we place our hope in things that eventually fade, no matter the time it takes, our hope is in the wrong place.  The faithful have been called to place their hope in the Eternal One who has always been, providing a never-ending hope.  Turn to the Lord and live into His plans, for they are forever and will come to pass as He has purposed.  He is the One who creates life and sustains it.

Lord, help me get off the crazy circle this world is on, where they try the same thing with a twist and expect to have different results.  You have called for me to look to You as my hope and salvation.  Guide my eyes to You that I may live according to the purpose for which I was created.  Guide me into wisdom that I may increase in understanding and live by that wisdom according to Your purpose.

Lord, You have called me to live in and through You.  Help me understand a little more this day the great mystery You have revealed by faith that I would hold fast to that which is forever.  Keep me moving in the right direction and hold me fast to Your never-changing standards that I would abide in You and You in me, doing what is right in Your sight.  Guide me to be faithful this day.  Amen.

“Surely you will be ashamed of the oaks which you have desired and you will be embarrassed at the gardens which you have chosen.”  (Isaiah 1:29)

For whatever reason, the devil loves to get people to worship creation rather than the Creator.  We are unable to create a Garden of Eden, for we are sinners and can only choose what is evil in the sight of the Lord.  He must rescue us to be able to rightly worship and live according to His never-failing principles which He established in the beginning.  Choose the Lord and live, else remain condemned in the choice of sin.

Lord, it is not a matter of choosing You, but that You have chosen to awaken me to Your presence and purpose.  Now awakened, bring me out of my slumber that I may live wholly according to Your Word.  Guide me into righteousness that I may see things through Your eyes and not dream dreams of a perfect world apart from You.  Help me learn this righteousness You have shown me through grace.

Guide me today, O Lord, according to the wisdom You have revealed for the ages.  Keep me from anything that is lifted up as new, knowing that everything that has been is happening again.  Instead, keep me close to You that I may live according to Your direction and purpose, fulfilling the plan of salvation You worked out for me before I was born.  Keep me close to You this day that I would worship You the Creator and not the things that are created.  Amen.

“But if you refuse and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” Truly, the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”  (Isaiah 1:20)

That which ultimately kills is sin.  Refuse the Lord and you will die by the sword of sin.  Take up the sword of the Spirit and you will live.  This is the option that is before every human being.  The final Word is Christ.  Those who are in Him will live, everyone else will perish.  The mouth of the Lord has spoken the final offer for all.  Those who believe will live in and with Him forever.

Lord, help me understand clearly that my faith is not something to toy with.  Guide me into understanding that this is not simply a matter of earthly life and death, but a matter of eternity.  You have spoken Your final Word, the Word made flesh and You have called for as many who believe to come to You in faith.  Help me, to the core of my being, see how serious this is.

Thank You Lord for speaking the final Word.  Help me live in You today knowing that living in You is life itself.  Guide everything I do that in You I would learn, grow and have my being.  Through the Holy Spirit, direct my steps this day that I would hold fast to the revelation You have given, knowing that in You alone am I able to lead the godly life.  May my life be lived faithfully this day in You.  Amen.

“Then I will restore your judges as at the first and your counselors as at the beginning; after that you will be called the city of righteousness, a faithful city.”  (Isaiah 1:27)

The Lord has established a pattern of judges, not rulers.  Judges to ascertain the outcome of disputes versus those who dictate outcomes.  The battle of humanity over the ages has been to move from people working together to keep in line to being under the thumb of a ruler.  The Lord establishes freedom and the devil seeks domination.  The Lord promises restoration of freedom for those who turn to Him in repentance.

Lord, I see the same pattern emerging in our contemporary world where freedom is sacrificed for domination.  Help me understand that although I may not be able to directly change the world, I can be changed and a witness of Your freedom for the world around me.  Guide me into Your righteousness that I may live according to Your principles and be a witness of the freedom You grant through grace.

Thank You, Lord, for freeing me from the insanity of this world through grace.  Guide me in that grace to live righteously today, doing what is right in Your sight.  Help me, I pray, to make good decisions and live in obedience that I may begin practicing the citizenship of Your kingdom.  May I be faithful this day, being led by Your presence to do what is right in Your sight.  Amen.

“I will also turn My hand against you and will smelt away your dross as with lye and will remove all your alloy.”  (Isaiah 1:25)

The warmth of lye burns off the stains and dries up the water – the living water – that supports life.  The Lord has done this and will do it again.  Those who have eyes to see can look around and choose the insanity of the world, or else come into repentance and seek the ways of the Lord.  That which is eternal will remain, all else will pass away.  Seek the eternal and life that You may be refreshed in Him.

Lord, it gets crazier with each passing day as the world is consumed in the meaningless of chasing after temporary things.  Help me, I pray, to seek You first and have the priorities that are right in Your sight.  Give me eyes to see clearly what will pass away that I may pursue the things that are lasting.  Guide me into Your grace that I may live by Your provision alone.

Thank You, Lord, that You have come to rescue those who turn to You.  Help me today to focus on what is lasting and of true worth to You rather than spending my time on those things that the world lifts up as valuable.  May all my actions this day be directed by the simple truth that to obey You is better than needing the grace that You provide.  Help me be obedient this day.  Amen

“Therefore the Lord God of hosts, the Mighty One of Israel, declares, “Ah, I will be relieved of My adversaries and avenge Myself on My foes.”  (Isaiah 1:24)

Until the final day when the Lord reaches the end of His patience, there will be times of reprieve when the people will turn again to the Lord.  Throughout history, this has often comes by way of a calamity, but can be more easily reached through repentance.  Therefore, repent while you are able that you would turn from wickedness and toward the goodness of the Lord.  It is not the crowd who does this, but each individual.

Lord, I often excuse myself because of what those around me are doing, staying one step behind them so that I seem better than they.  Help me turn from this foolishness that I would instead seek You and Your righteousness and live according to Your Word no matter what those around me are doing.  Help me learn faithfulness, seeking You first and then following in the way You lead.

Thank You Lord that You have given me grace through the cross to look upon that cross and be healed of the disease that is once again as a raging plague upon this world.  Help me be healed of my infirmities and join the ranks of the saints who faithfully live out Your grace in daily life.  Guide me to do what is right today that I would not be relieved of Your presence, but instead stand in Your presence as one of Your saints.  Amen.

“Your rulers are rebels and companions of thieves; everyone loves a bribe and chases after rewards.  They do not defend the orphan, nor does the widow’s plea come before them.”  (Isaiah 1:23)

Sound familiar?  It should, for it describes what our land has become.  One is never sure who can be trusted and the ways of the wicked are upheld while the ways of the righteous are downtrodden.  In the name of defending those in need, outright thievery is all around us, taking from those who have earned and giving to those who are able, but will not seek to earn.

Lord, every generation has the opportunity to turn to You and Your ways.  We live in a time when the church has decreased and many have turned from You.  Help me not follow the crowd, but instead follow You as You lead me up and out of the insanity of a world that continuously does the same thing over and over again, calling it good when it is evil.

Where I need to repent Lord, lead me into repentance.  Guide me up and out of the mess of this world, first to see clearly the difference between good and evil and then act to do the good in whatever way I can.  Help me not get caught up in the nonsense of thinking there is nothing I can do and instead, show me what I may do this day for the sake of Your kingdom.  Amen.

“Your silver has become dross, your drink diluted with water.”  (Isaiah 1:22)

Many place things of value in things.  Rather than what is pure and holy, they chase after things that are stolen, decay with time and will eventually be valueless.  All along the way, the crowds encourage one another with the lie that all is well.  Meanwhile, the house is crumbling because the truth of the Lord is no longer the central jewel that is upheld as the most valuable.

Lord, I too have my part in the ongoing erosion of a society that once acknowledged that all good things come from You.  Having been secularized, even in the church, attitudes and values are far from You and the things You give us that are eternal.  Turn my heart back to You that I would value first and foremost the truth of Your Word and the precepts You have given as righteous and holy.

Thank You Lord for reaching into a world that is constantly going awry and offering the salvation that comes through Your grace.  Help me, I pray, to seek first Your kingdom, knowing that then Your righteousness shall be given as I live a life of belief.  Guide me this day into Your righteousness that I would be faithful to You first and above all things.  May I rest my head tonight have lived this day as faithfully as I am able.  Amen.

“How the faithful city has become a harlot, she who was full of justice! Righteousness once lodged in her, But now murderers.”  (Isaiah 1:21)

What was once faithful will revert to its sinful self.  Without the help of the Lord, the sinner will go back to the stench of sin.  In the ebb and flow of history, we see the once faithful places devolve into sin, ignoring the Lord and His ways.  Do not think anyone in any time is exempt.  Unless the house of the Lord is vigilant and remains faithful, it will fall into the world’s sin.

Lord, I look around me and see once faithful places of worship, communities that gave allegiance to You and see how the have fallen into faithlessness.  I lament, but turn my lament into vigilance that I would simply seek to be faithful and perhaps be joined by one or two others to rebuild what has been lost, knowing that in so doing, my portion is assured in Your unfailing grace.

Lord, You have said over and over again in Your Word that it begins with one.  Let the one be me today as I seek to be faithful in the calling You have given me knowing that only in You is there hope and a future.  Guide me into this life of faith that I would be vigilant and diligent in doing what You would have me do and then, and only then, let me see those around me who are faithful to You that together we would be an encouragement to one another.  Amen.
