“Therefore in Christ Jesus I have found reason for boasting in things pertaining to God.”  (Romans 15:17)

When we focus on ourselves, the circle grows ever smaller, but when we focus on the things of God, we see an ever expanding horizon.  Those who boast in themselves become tiring, but of the things of the Lord, that is literally everything.  Therefore, if one must boast, boast in the things of the Lord, for He alone is the One who is forever and brings forever to Him those who are in Him.

Lord, help me see that I cannot live a life that turns into myself.  Help me live into Your truth and the reality of who You are.  Keep my eye on the horizon and not down and upon myself.  Guide me into Your ways and lead me according to Your right Spirit that I may live into this life that You have given me and the eternal life You have promised through Christ.

Thank You, Lord, for showing me the way to life.  Help me today life in this life You have given me that I may grow into the eternal life You have promised.  Guide me this day to be looking outward and not inward and if I find the need to boast, may it be about You and Your truth.  In all I do this day, may it be outward focused and not inward that You alone may be praised.  Amen.

“To be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles, ministering as a priest the gospel of God, so that my offering of the Gentiles may become acceptable, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.”  (Romans 15:16)

All who are disciples are called to be ministers of the Gospel, sharing–as the Lord gives the opportunity–the truth of the Gospel, whether through encouragement, or by admonishment that the neighbor may also be lifted up through grace to a sustaining and growing faith.  We are called together to work together for the sake of the will of the Father, knowing the outcome of the Gospel on a sinful world.

Lord, help me to not live in an us/them world, but with an attitude of hopefulness for all whom I meet, trusting in Your promise to save all whom will be saved.  Help me learn to do my part without judging what You are doing, but instead, seeking always to be faithful.  Guide me into faithfulness in order to live by and through Your Word toward the eternal promise You have given.

Thank You, Lord, both for making clear that I am to be a minister today, but also for granting me a part in the growing of Your kingdom.  Guide me this day to be faithful in the calling You have given me that I may abide in Your Word, according to Your purpose for the Father’s glory.  May all I do this day be pleasing in Your site and in accordance with Your perfect will.  Amen.

“But I have written very boldly to you on some points so as to remind you again, because of the grace that was given me from God” (Romans 15:15)

We are to share what we have been given.  We are to receive what the Lord has given to another to be shared with us.  The Lord alone is Lord of all.  Therefore, walk in the admonition of the Lord, remind one another of the truth of the Gospel and live by the grace you have been given, that living in the harmony of the Lord, you may be strengthened for the tasks the Lord gives you.

Lord, guide me to focus on those things You give me to do that I may be faithful in this calling You have given me.  Help me, I pray, to see that in Your hands, You are indeed working all things together for good for those who love You.  Teach me to trust Your working in and through the faithful saints You have raised for the sake of Your Gospel, adding my part to Your work for Your sake.

Guide me today Holy Spirit to go in the direction You lead that I may be faithful in this calling You have given me.  Help me be aware, alert and willing to do the things You give me to do, knowing that by Your guidance alone can I be faithful.  Help me be a witness of Your Gospel with all whom I encounter this day, that I may be a faithful disciple.  Amen.

“And concerning you, my brethren, I myself also am convinced that you yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge and able also to admonish one another.”  (Romans 15:14)

Reaching for maturity, any group of disciples will gain the ability through the Holy Spirit to grow and be strengthened.  The final objective in the Great Commission is learning how to obey and then hold one another accountable to the principles of the Lord.  Yes, we need to admonish one another in order to hold fast to the truth which has already been revealed.

Lord, it is not easy, but it is the kind thing to do to learn how to admonish sinful behavior as a part of loving the neighbor.  Help me, I pray, to learn to be faithful in all circumstances, knowing that You Word shall not come back void.  Guide me to be consistent and faithful in all things, being an encouragement to my neighbor knowing that I too shall be admonished at the right time.

Lord, You are Lord of all and guide those who follow You into all truth.  Guide the group I am in to be faithful disciples, encouraging and admonishing one another for the sake of the Gospel.  Guide me, I pray, to faithfully live out the Gospel You have revealed that I may be Your witness for my neighbor and the stranger whom I meet this day.  In faithfulness, may I serve you this day.  Amen.

“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”  (Romans 15:13)

Believing is more than an attitude of the mind, belief must be in the heart.  True believe motivates the whole of life and directs the energy and action that drives you.  Living in trust and hope, we are called to trust the Lord in all things knowing that He is more than able to accomplish what He has promised.  His peace comes through the knowledge that all things are now and always will be in His hands.

Lord, help me let go of those things that distract me from the truth that all things are now and always will be in Your hands.  Guide me into the life You have always intended, knowing that in You alone is there hope and an eternal future.  May I be filled with Your peace, that joy in my life may abound, knowing that You have already accomplished salvation for as many as believe.

Guide me today Lord Jesus in the peace You alone can give.  Help me radiate that peace that others may see the light of Your life in me in order to witness to the eternal truth of Your saving grace.  Guide my actions to be in harmony with the Father’s will that I may be your faithful disciple in all I do.  May my life be a thanksgiving of Your grace, showing all whom I meet that You are the Lord of my life.  Amen.

“Again Isaiah says, “There shall come the root of Jesse, And He who arises to rule over the Gentiles, In Him shall the Gentiles hope.”  (Romans 15:12)

The root of Jesse is Christ the Lord.  Peace has come through the Prince of Peace who has come to set the captives free.  His kingdom calls out all in the world, regardless from whence they come, to lay down their life of sin and take on the new life that He alone gives.  In Him, there is the hope of the nations and we are all called together under His gentle and eternal rule.

Lord Jesus, You are King of kings and Lord of lords.  Help me understand this more fully each day and live according to the revealed truth You have shown.  Guide me into Your plan for the nations that I might be a faithful subject of Your realm.  Teach me to submit always to Your authority and live according to Your principles, knowing that it is Your kingdom alone which will endure.

Lord, You have come to save as many as would turn to You.  You are the One who knows those who will turn to You.  Guide me today to be faithful to Your calling and lean not on my own understanding.  Help me be a willing partner by sharing the Gospel with all whom I meet through my actions and words, keeping my thoughts on You and Your revealed Word.  Amen.

And again, “Praise the Lord all you Gentiles, And let all the peoples praise Him.”  (Romans 15:11)

From every tribe, tongue, clan and nation people are called out in the name of the Lord.  The hosts of heaven are made up of as many as believe and turn to Him.  The Lord so loved all whom He made that He gave His only begotten Son for the world.  We are to share the Gospel with all whom we meet.  The Lord knows those who are His and will call them according to His purpose.

Lord, I live with sinful prejudice that causes me to look at some people differently.  Help me tear down this barrier that I may see the possibility of salvation for all whom I meet.  You alone are able to save and You alone know those who are Yours, but grant that I would be a willing part of Your plan of salvation and not be an obstacle for any whom I meet.

Thank You Lord for making me a part of  Your kingdom.  In Your will and with Your guidance, guide my actions this day that in all I do, I would be a help and not a hindrance for Your kingdom.  Give me the words to speak and the actions to perform that I may be a help in others receiving the truth of the Gospel that all whom You know may join in bringing You praise and honor.  Amen.

Tuesday, June 24, 2014, Devotion

“Again he says, “Rejoice, O Gentiles, with His people.”  (Romans 15:10)

The Lord created all people in His image and desires that none would perish.  He calls all through the Gospel to be saved and learn to rejoice in the truth of His salvation.  All means all, regardless of what has gone on before.  It is not a matter of the haves and have nots, but of those who turn to the Lord and realize the love He has for all who turn to Him.

The Lord has chosen the path by which He draws all who will come unto Him.  Those who enter the path, from every tribe, tongue and nation are equally called, equipped and sanctified to live into the life that leads to eternal life.  All of heaven rejoices when one sinner repents and turns to the Lord.  It is to this cause that those who believe are called: to share the Gospel with all whom they meet.

Lord, help me understand that Your kingdom is not built upon the things of this fallen world.  Help me see that in You, all have the opportunity to live into a life that rejoices in You and the salvation You have prepared for all people who will turn to You.  Guide me today to live that Gospel and share through my life the truth that You alone are able to save and You will save all who turn to You.  Amen.

“And for the Gentiles to glorify God for His mercy; as it is written,“Therefore I will give praise to You among the Gentiles, And I will sing to Your name.”  (Romans 15:9)

Paul proclaimed to the Jews who believed that the Gospel was not just for them, but for all.  Sometimes we can get into a sinful way of thinking and believe that the Lord has already damned those around us who are not a part of us, but here we see that the Lord calls for us to reach out to all for the sake of the Gospel.  The Lord will call and choose whom the Lord will call and choose.

Lord, Change the way I think so that I do not think as the world thinks.  Help me not see us and them, but only the hope of salvation and Your desire that none would perish.  I once was lost, but now am saved by Your grace.  Help me reach out to the lost that they too might know You, the One True God and not live in the decadence of sinful nothingness, but live life as You have created it to be lived.

Holy Spirit, guide me this day to live according to Your Word.  Help me live this day reaching out to others for the sake of the Gospel.  Guide my actions so that they do not exclude others from Your grace, but include them in the invitation You give to all.  Help me be faithful today, living according to Your purpose and fulfilling Your perfect will.  Amen.

Sunday, June 22, 2014, Devotion

“For I say that Christ has become a servant to the circumcision on behalf of the truth of God to confirm the promises given to the fathers” (Romans 15:8)

Christ has done what needs to be done in order to reach a hard hearted and stubborn people.  Sinners do not want to believe that the God of all would serve, but life itself is a gift given by the One who created it all.  Christ serves us as an example that we ought to serve one another, for we will be conformed to His image.  Therefore, trust in the promises given by the One who first served you.

Lord, I am one of those hard hearted and stubborn people.  Help me not resist the direction You would take me in order to live into the promises You give.  Guide me away from what I think into what You have said.  Help me not cling to the old things, but to live as one who has had the rottenness cut off and Your goodness to replace what I once considered important.

Lord Jesus, You have set the example of how to live the godly life – by serving.  Help me today to be Your servant and to be the servant of others for the sake of the Gospel.  Guide me to do those things You would have me do and live according to Your Word.  In all I do this day, may it be Your presence, purpose and power that guides me.  Amen.
