“But you, why do you judge your brother? Or you again, why do you regard your brother with contempt?  For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.”  (Romans 14:10)

The devil comes along and convinces us that we are superior to someone else.  We then turn our bias into bigotry and run down the road of sin.  All of us are equal before the Lord, Everyone has sinned and therefore everyone is guilty.  For we who know the grace of Christ, we are to be gracious to others knowing that we do not deserve grace, but mercifully receive it.  Therefore, be merciful to others as you have received mercy.

Whether its class, age, status, or whatever thing the devil uses to divide, Lord help me to see that I am no different than my neighbor with perhaps the exception that I have been granted to privilege to know You.  Help me to learn to be gracious to others with the hope that they will have the opportunity to know You as Lord and Savior.  Guide me into true love of my neighbor.

Lord, I cannot even begin to comprehend Your love and mercy, but I have received it.  Help me, I pray, this day to live in Your mercy and to be merciful to others as You have been merciful to me.  Guide my thoughts and help me be aware when the devil is raising up division that I may resist and remain in Your mercy, sharing that mercy with all whom I meet.  Amen.

“For to this end Christ died and lived again, that He might be Lord both of the dead and of the living.”  (Romans 14:9)

We think in terms of this temporal, temporary, mortal existence and do not see beyond the pale of death.  We were created immortal and imperishable and that day will come in the Lord.  This is why Scripture calls those who gone before asleep in Him.  Christ came to rescue the needy to join with Him now and forever.  Heaven awaits the unsaved and is now for all those who are in Him.

Lord, help me see that in You I am always, just as You are always.  Although my days unfold before me, grant eyes that see that everything is in the pale of Your purpose as You redeem those who will journey with You day by day.  Guide me into Your presence today and every day that I may walk with You my Savior and live according to the Father’s will.

Lord Jesus, You have died that I may live.  Help me today to die to my sinful self that I may live the eternal life of living for Your purpose.  Guide me today in thought, word and deed to be Your disciple, living according to Your Word, seeking You in all moments with unceasing prayer that I may live this day according to the Father’s will.  Guide me in Your spirit to be faithful to You.  Amen.

“For if we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord; therefore whether we live or die, we are the Lord’s.”  (Romans 14:8)

Where our heart is, there is the center of our treasure.  When we are in the Lord, we know that all will be in His hands and will work out according to His perfect plan.  IN all we do, in all we are, in all that motivates us, if it is in the Lord and by faith, we know it is being done as it has always been known that it would be done.  Treasure the Lord and the life He gives.  Live for Him and you will live truth.

Lord, in this temporary world, we run around afraid, uncertain and with timidity.  Help me to understand simply that all is in Your hands and that You already know the outcome of all things.  Guide me into complete trust in You and Your way that I may live as You would have me live, knowing that in You there is both hope and future.  Keep me always close to You and teach me to hold You close to me.

Thank You, Lord, for freeing me from the futility of this world’s non-stop insanity.  Help me realize that nothing can happen to me apart from Your will, nor will I change the day I die by jumping into the futility of this world.  Lead me by faith to do what You would have me do, yet not worry about what I might accomplish, but instead, live in the freedom You have given me.  Amen.

“For not one of us lives for himself, and not one dies for himself” (Romans 14:7)

Everyone receives life from the Lord, whether or not they acknowledge it.  We are all connected to life because of the gift it is from Him and therefore, we are connected one to the other.  Those who turn into themselves and live for themselves deny the reality that each one of us touches the other in the intricate connection that the Lord has created with all of life.

Lord, I am often tempted to think in terms of the self alone, but the reality is that none of us is left to himself.  Help me understand more fully that each person I see and meet is someone with whom You have given me the ability to relate with, for I am connected through You to all whom I meet.  Guide me to live by Your wisdom and not fall into the trap that denies that I am a part of Your kingdom.

Lord, thank You for making me aware that I am connected to You and through You, you connect me with others.  Keep me from false philosophies that would hinder me from simply realizing that everyone whom I meet is at least a potential brother or sister in You.  Help me love my neighbor, all of them, in fulfillment of the commandment You have given that I may please You and discover fulfillment.  Amen.

“He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God.”  (Romans 14:6)

In everything you do, do it for the Lord (Colossians 3:23).  This attitude shifts us from worrying what others think to simply serving the Lord in all things that we do.  It takes work and diligence, but such is a heart that is turned to the Lord, and this is the heart the disciple of Jesus will gain if they pursue the Lord with all their being.  Be turned to the Lord in all things, knowing that He will help you to have this kind of heart.

Lord, I have lived my life worrying about what others will think.  Help me, I pray, to have a heart for You alone, knowing that all I do should serve You.  Keep my focus on what You give me to do each day, and help me be faithful to You regardless of what others may think, say, or do.  Help me realize the greater freedom in serving You in all things.

Thank You, Lord, for giving me the opportunity to serve You today.  Help me see that in serving others, I am serving You and that in being served by others, it is You who is serving me.  Guide me into the right way of thinking today that I may be faithful in the call You give me.  May all I do this day be to Your glory, helping the cause of the Gospel.  Amen.

“One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind.”  (Romans 14:5)

We have special days we celebrate and that’s fine, but every day is a day to be celebrated in the Lord.  We have freedom to celebrate, make special, remember, but this should never take us from the first command to love the Lord with all of our heart, soul and mind.  With the help of the Holy Spirit, come to a conclusion as to what is appropriate in your life and live it in the assurance the Holy Spirit gives.

Lord, there are many ‘special’ days that people celebrate, and I know this is fine as far as it goes.  There are others for whom no day is particularly different than another.  Help me to see that my relationship with You is more important than anything else and that the days I celebrate should always reflect that and never take away from the relationship I have with You.

Lord, You walk with me every day, which makes each day special.  Help me, I pray, to see that in You I have all the hope and cause for celebration that I may live today and every day in the joy You give.  Guide me to be respectful of others and their special days, but always mindful that no day is above another as long as I am in You.  Amen.

“Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.”  (Romans 14:4)

Ultimately, we will stand before the Lord ourselves to give an account.  We are often tempted to look at what others do, rather than see what the Lord would have us do.  Judge against yourself and see whether or not you are doing what the Lord would have you do.  The Lord will empower you to do what He would have you do in every circumstance.

Lord, I often look to others as an excuse not to do what You would have me do.  Help me, I pray, to see that I stand with You alone when it comes to judging what I should and should not do.  Guide me to do what You would have me do in every circumstance whether or not others are joining alongside what I am doing.  Guide me to be faithful in every circumstance.

Thank You, Lord, for the grace I need for those times when I did not step up to the plate and do what You gave me to do.  Help me today to not need the grace You offer, but instead to simply do what You would have me do regardless of whether or not anyone else steps up to the plate to do their part.  Guide me to be gracious with others as You have been gracious to me.  Amen.

“Now accept the one who is weak in faith, but not for the purpose of passing judgment on his opinions.”  (Romans 14:1)

Often in the church, we look at others and do not accept them as they are.  We are encouraged to be an encouragement to others.  Each of us are where we are and as long as one is on the narrow road with Jesus, this is the goal, for we are to reach out to others.  The greatest challenge today is not judging others for where they are, but loving them to the place the Lord wants them to be.

Lord, I am guilty of looking down on others because of where they are in life.  Help me have a heart for evangelism that seeks to love all whom I meet into Your kingdom.  Guide me through the devil’s pitfalls, so that I overcome them and do what You would have me do, loving my neighbor as myself.  Guide me to do what is right for all people regardless their situation.

Lord Jesus, while yet I was a sinner, You loved me right where I was and loved me to the place where I am now.  In Your example, help me love others with the love You have shown me.  Guide me to be appropriate and loving, knowing that in You alone will I be able to do what You would have me do for all of the neighbors I will encounter today.  May I serve You by serving others this day.  Amen.
